Ju Jitsu - The Gentle Art

Ju Jitsu kanji artwork Ju-Jitsu, which translates from the Japanese as the gentle art, is generally considered to be the oldest form of Martial Art.( Often thought of as the Mother Art) It is said that it originated in India, Egypt, and possibly Ancient Greece (Pankathreon, A form of brutal wrestling practice by the Greeks this is actual documented from the days of the Olympians) more than two thousand years before Christ, and was created by monks who normally carried no weapons to defend themselves against bandit attacks. It spread through the Far East and China and eventually took root in Japan, where its elaborated format is said to have become the first Martial Art style. The Japanese Bushi (Knights) adopted Ju-Jitsu as their own during the Kamakura period (1185 - 1333) in order to disable, cripple or kill an armed opponent if the Bushi had been disarmed. As the centuries passed, various schools developed, such as Wa-Jutsu, Yawara and Kempo (Far too many to mention), and techniques were combined with Chinese methods of combat. It became a true Martial Art in the Edo period (1600 - 1868) and many more schools were created by the Japanese master less warriors, the Ronin. These Warriors gained a wealth of experience as they would sell their services to the highest bidder in effect medieval Mercenaries, some turned to crime but all had to fight for their lives in one instance or another therefore the ones that survived develop the most effective fighting techniques.

Ju-Jitsu, in its true form, is not a sport. There are NO RULE, NO CONCEPT of fair play or "gentlemen's understanding" in the application of self-defence technique. It is direct and, often, brutal. In the event of an attack, the ability to cripple or kill was, and is, unfortunately essential. While damage to the opponent can be minimal, the goal is always to do whatever is needed to survive any confrontation. We must bear this in mind in the context of a battlefield environment, Where there was no second place.

In the context of modern living we attempted to use minimal force for maximum results, the law says: Minimal force as to what is conceived to be the threat!

A bit vague in my opinion and can easily be misinterpreted

“Ju-Jitsu is surgical violence in its purest form."
